Hatthikucchi Temple

    Hatthikucchi Temple is a historical Buddhist site. This is an unknown place of Sri Lanka. It located in Kurunagala District, Sri Lanka. And it located near to the Anuradhapura-Padeniya road. Hatthikucchi also referred as "Hasthikuchchi" and "Hasti Kuchchi". It dates back to 3rd centaury. It was a kingdom of King Sirisangabo. He is one of the most known king of the Sri Lankan history.  

This place got  its name from the inscription "Atti Kucchi". This place is best known as "the place where King Sirisangabo gave his head"

    The main building which has been identified are a Vatadage; And there are an image house (Kandy period), a poya house, some stupas, an alms hall,  a semicircular building in this area. This area of over 300 acres. The top of mountain is the oldest stupa. 

    From the top of mountain we can see a jungle area and rocks. There is a wonderful thing in this temple. That is a hanging rock balanced on the edge of a another rock.

There is a tank on the rock. It is believed to be the place where king Sirisangabo gave his head.









This place is called as "Hastthikucchi Ruins, Hasthikucchi Ruins, Hasti Kucchi Ruins, Rajanganaya Ruins and Attanagalla".
